Hear Us Out: Elder Voices Poster
2022
This poster was created as part of a school assignment and international poster project called Hear Us Out. Each student is required to ask the following question to an elder (65+), “If you could give one piece of advice to the people in your city (in 20 words or less), what would it be?”. Based off the elder’s response, a poster is designed keeping with the spirit of the message and reflecting the insights of each city’s elders.
My elder’s message was “年轻人应该尊重长辈,也需要谦虚且多乐于助人。” which translates to “Youths have to respect elders, be humble and help others whenever they can”. I condensed the message to “乐于助人”, a Chinese proverb meaning to find joy in helping others, as to me, actions speak louder than words for youths.
I decided to depict this communal spirit through incoporating public housing in Singapore in the form of HDB flats into my design as many Singaporeans grow up alongside their neighbours, often maintaining close relations and helping each other whenever possible.

Poster Design
Participating institutions across three nations included Wintec and Toi Ohomai (Aotearoa New Zealand), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), and the University of Missouri-St Louis (United States of America). A restricted color palette is used to ensure cohesion between the other poster entries.
